SID'S GUIDE TO ... CHRISTMAS!
FATHER CHRISTMAS TREAT BOX

Remember ...
Art and Craft Projects can be really messy, so make sure you cover your work surface before you begin - or you could end up in big trouble with the grown up whose table you've just wrecked!
Stuff you need ...
1 empty plastic ROUND bottle (a mineral water bottle or washing up liquid bottle will be fine, so long as it’s round)
1 bottle top
Thin card (you can use an empty cereal packet)
Kitchen roll or Tissue paper
PVA glue and paste brush
Poster Paint or Acrylic Paint
Plastic eyes
Cotton wool
1 Grown Up with strong scissors
Wrapped up sweets and treats!
What you do ...
Get your Grown up to cut the top from the bottle using their strong scissors. You need the edge to be as smooth and even as possible. You should end up with a tube shape that stands up like a vase. This is Santa’s ‘head’.

Paste glue over the bottle.

Stick strips of kitchen roll or tissue paper to the bottle and paste over again. Make sure you cover the rim with paper and glue to make the edge safe and smooth. Stick the bottle top on the ‘head’ to make a nose and cover this with kitchen roll and glue.

Repeat several times, then leave to dry.

Roll up the cardboard into a cone shape. You are making a hat for your Father Christmas, so make sure the wide end is wide enough to fit over your bottle (which is his head).

Trim the wide end of the cone until it’s even and fits over Santa’s ‘head’.

Now you need to paste glue over the cone and cover it with strips of kitchen roll or tissue paper, exactly the same as the base. Then leave to dry.

Your Father Christmas is now ready to paint and decorate!

First, paint his face a fleshy colour. Put on a mouth and draw in ears if you like. Stick on the plastic eyes and then stick cotton wool around his face (and on the back of his head) in the shape of his hair – and don’t forget a big, bushy white beard! Remember that you’ll still need to get his hat on, so don’t go too mad with the cotton wool!

If your bottle is quite tall, rather than make his head really long you could paint in the top part of his costume.

Then, paint his hat red and stick cotton wool around the rim, with a ball on the point. You could also stick a couple of bits on the front of his hat. It’s up to you!

When the paint has dried, put your sweets and treats into Santa’s head, put on his hat and give it to your favourite person!
