SID'S GUIDE TO ... HALLOWEEN!
POMPOM SPIDERS

Pompom spiders make great Halloween decorations for a Halloween party, or you can carry them around as part of your fancy dress costume.

Stuff you need ...
Large ball of black wool
Scissors
7cm x 5cm rectangle of card
4 black pipe cleaners
Small teddy bear eyes – you can buy these from most craft shops
Glue
A Grown Up
What you do ...
Cut a piece of wool about 60cm long and put it aside for later.

With the card facing long-ways in front of you, begin to loosely wrap the wool around and around the piece of card. Don’t wrap the wool too tightly or it will be difficult to take off the card.

Keep wrapping the wool until you have several layers on the card with no gaps.

Carefully take the wool loops off the card, making sure the loops keep their shape.

Lay the loops of wool out in front of you. Place the 4 pipe cleaners on top of the loops and tightly tie the 60cm piece of wool around the middle of the loops and the pipe cleaners.

Cut the loops of wool at their edges to make a pompom. Bend the pipe cleaners to make spider’s legs and glue on the eyes.
Try this ...
Now you’ve made your very own Halloween spider, why not make lots to decorate your house?
... or even this!

You can make a quick and easy web for your spider by laying newspaper on a table and putting a piece of black paper on top.

Use glue to draw a web on the black paper.

While the glue is still wet, sprinkle silver glitter on the glue web.

Gently shake the picture and let the excess glitter slide off the black paper and onto the newspaper so you don’t make a mess.

Leave it to dry overnight.
